The Appliance Traders Group Pension Scheme was formed on December 1, 1983 with the approval of the Commissioner of Income Tax under Section 44 of the Income Tax Act. The Scheme was given permission to receive pension contributions and invest those contributions without having to pay tax on its income.
Between 1983 and 1990, the Scheme was managed by Individual Trustees and in March 1990, ATL Group Pension Fund Trustees Nominee Limited, was appointed as the Corporate Trustee of the Scheme, replacing the Individual Trustees. Additionally, ATL Group Pension Fund Trustees Nominee Limited would be responsible for the Administration, Investment, Management and Custodianship of the Pension Scheme.
In September 2006, in line with requirements of the Pensions Act, 2004 and Pensions Regulations, 2006 four (4) additional Trustees were nominated and elected. These are two (2) Individual Sponsor Trustees, one (1) Member Trustee and one (1) Pensioner Trustee.
Which companies make up the Appliance Traders Group Pension Scheme?
Gorstew Limited and certain of its affiliated and subsidiary Companies are members of the Appliance Traders Group Pension Scheme. At present, the larger companies are the Sandals/Beaches Hotels in Jamaica, Appliance Traders Limited, ATL Automotive Limited and the Jamaica Observer Limited.
What is the purpose of the Pension Scheme?
The main purpose of the Scheme is to provide its members with reasonable pensions upon retirement. In order to achieve this goal, the Trustees aim to maximize the return on the investments over the long term.
